It hasn’t been a glorious week for advertising campaigns. First Vodafone has its
wrist slapped for being too saucy, then SK Telecom gets fined for using
‘slanderous’ advertisements against competitor KT Freetel, and finally Microsoft
gets rumbled being economical with the truth about its ad campaign that used
fake ‘real people’ to extoll the merits of Microsoft Windows XP versus Apple. It
turns out that one XP ‘fan’ was actually just a stock photo with words put into
her mouth by a freelancer hired by, you guessed it, Microsoft. Only real losers
have to pay people to be nice about them. Didn’t stop them making bumper Q3
profits though.
