As a programmer I feel that having CVS and FTP setup on your server is
enough. Why do you want people depositing files on your server over
the internet? If they are files that they are compiling it would be
horribly slow.

Another method of syncing file is rsync over SSH. I use to update my
website. It is a very powerful mechanism that saves bandwith.

would ask myselft the question, is it really necessary?

Hell no, not NFS! It's a major secury hole. Beside windows NFS client
don't work very well.
