I doubt it's anything related to UTF8 here, and it's easy to reproduce (just try to play the song). And it doesn't hang, it blanks the screen (to white), then a horizontal line (like the screen is being reset), and then the apple logo, and it boots up normally again. I've ruled out a defective memory cell, btw, tried to move the file around. Another thing is that the mp3 file contains lyrics in the ID3 header.
