Actually, you are wrong when you say only RockBox and IPL are working on the classics. In fact, L4N was able to run unsigned code on the 6G a while ago, AND TheSeven recently ran code on the latest classic, as well as the 3G nano - So... you got some facts wrong here xD Yes, I agree that development has been slow lately, but keep in mind there's mainly one person trying to work on multiple ipods at once with little support. As long as someone doesn't try to help, they're in no position to complain IMO.
