A 5250 version already exists in Java
Better on Line Solutions has a product jadvantage - see www.jadvantage.com
that does just this. It also goes further allowing the customisation and
GUIising of the 5250 data stream. This is a commercial product that costs
money.
A free product of this nature would be very interesting but unfair to BOS.
Also the people who would use it are businesses, not home users, and should
pay for something that helps make a profit!
The advantage of this approach is that the resultant product is:
1. Independent of platform or OS
2. The software is not installed on the client.
3. Stored on the server, downloaded every time it is used. The client always
uses the latest copy.
4. Links to other objects can be relatively easily added
5. A web browser and an Internet connection are all that are required for
its use.
Their could be other commercial opportunities here!
