Doh! Looks like I remembered wrong (I haven't compiled it from source since slackware started putting it in their distribution). But reading the README (I hope it's in there) should say to do the above if that's what is wanted. And the build process for tn5250 probably should find ssl wherever it is installed. But if ssl is not in the users path or ld.so.conf path then how would it know?
