Oh you want details (I R DUMB)

anyway

i was just assuming that it was different I only tried it once on a windows
95 machine (not sure which VER)and it runs but using the $loginname$01 it
displayed that exactly (didn't replace the loginname)but i wasn't persistent
and i only tried it once so i could be high.

I tested it under:

    -- Win95 OSR2.1
    -- Win98 SE
    -- FreeBSD 4.5-RC2
    -- RedHat Linux 7.1

It worked under these platforms.

Maybe WinNT/2000/XP is different?  You didn't say where it didn't work,
you just said "only works on Win98".  Is it under WinNT & derivatives that
it fails?

Can you give more details?  What doesn't work?  What happens when you
try?  What platform?  etc...
