Ah. The problem is that this is the map used by tn5250 only when run in console mode. When run in X in an xterm, this won't work (actually it won't work in console mode the way you have it because .Xdefaults is not read by tn5250, but X. X does the mapping and simply passes keypresses to tn5250. When run from the console there is no X, so .Xdefaults is never read.).

For now, unless you have something in your .Xdefaults besides what you've posted (like for other programs - I doubt you do), just delete .Xdefaults and start up xt5250.
