.tn5250rc and my user defined .Xdefaults files set up and xt5250 is
working great. I have two questions, though: the font is 7x13, but what
does that actually mean? Can anyone give me some alternate font sizes

Use 'xlsfonts' to get a list of available fonts (on my system it is a huge list and zooms past on the screen. I usually use 'xlsfonts | less' to view the list). Among the many fonts listed is 7x14, 8x13, 8x16, 9x15. See if any of those will work for you. Alternatively, you can use xfontsel to see the fonts and then use the name it shows in place of 7x13.

to experiment? Secondly, is there a way to make the window contents
bigger? I have a small resolution on my machine and it is very hard to
read. Changing the window size simply increases the black around the
text but does not increase the text itself.

Making the window contents larger can be done with Control-right click and selecting the size you want.
