Scott, I have succeeded in: freeing up consoles 1-5 ( 6 is login and 7 is X) starting console sessions on 1-5.
doing from 6 consolechars --tty-/dev/tty1 -f lat9-8 (for example). Now with your suggestion I will try to incorporate a script for this. I am not competent to deal with non-linux but perhaps the script approach will do. Thanks, probably take me a week.
