noo3++ ( one step above newbie )
the only reason i give myself the ++ is because i can use vi ( a little )
i've downloaded source and configured / compiled / installed: redhat ( yes,
the whole distro. ...i need to figure out how to use thoes iso files
someday... ), samba, apache, php, mysql, > 30 MP3 software titles, seti@home
( including the cron job that autostarts every hour when it crashes )
i've managed to get a new 13 GB hard disk to partition / format / mount, and
subsquently ripped ( cdparanioa ) and encoded ( lame ) some 200+ cds onto
it, but then the disk crashed from a power surge, preventing me from booting
( i managed to get back into the /etc/fstab file and # it out so i could
boot again ( i thought that it was amazing that this only took me 1/2 hour
to do )).

7 all redhat 5.1 - 7.1. i could never get freebsd to install.
3 machines at work. 2 are just seti boxes, a P90 and a dual smp P166. 1 is
legit: Celery 300 which serves as a my test linux box for troubleshooting.
4 at home, 2 486 66 8 mb ram, 1 P166 64 mb ram, and a Celeron 300 128 mb
ram.
>4.) Favorite distribution: If you have one, and why?
RH. i guess i stick with what works. i would like to try some others, i was
going to try Debian next.
>5.) Do you use Linux professionally: - do you use it at work, and if so for

We ( www.roperscientific.com ) make ccd cameras and now have a linux driver
for x86 that runs our PCI card ( 10 MB / s dual diff xcvr ( TAXI protocall
)). I do tech support on our PVCAM API, so naturally it's nice if the users
can get the driver to load and talk to the camera.
We ( my little ISP ) are planning to replace 2 Sparc 1+ boxes with a couple
of linux boxes, put together a NOW cluster.
>6.) What speed internet connection: 56k, dsl/cable, T1, satellite, or what?
Cable Modem -> Linksys 4 port router -> 5 PCs, 3 linux and 2 Win98, one of
which is wireless ( 1 MB /s ) laptop.
i tried to get ipchains and stuff working, but gave up when i saw the
linksys. ok, i admit, i never got past the reading about it part...
2 T1s at work -> firewall -> 200+ PCs, 99% Windoze / 1 Sun Super Sparc 5,
Solaris 8 / SGI 02 R6000, IRIX 6.2 ( I have a toaster on my desk, which
constitutes the companies entire inventory of SGI boxes ( it's doing seti
blocks too, about the speed of a P200 ))
