At the August meeting, there was some discussion about encrypted file
systems. Here are some follow-up references:

Encryption HOW-TO from SourceForge
http://encryptionhowto.sourceforge.net/
This is an excellent reference covering all kinds of encryption for Linux
systems, including crypto file systems.

The International Kernal Patch
http://www.kerneli.org/
This primary distribution site for Linux kernel patched with full loopback
encryption. The International Kernel Patch is not endorsed by Linus
Torvalds and should therefore not be considered to be part of the official
Linux kernel source.

Vanish.org Disk Encryption Page
http://www.vanish.org/sde.htm
Pointers to several disk encryption tools for various operating systems.

Linux Journal #51 July 1998 article about Encrypted File Systems
http://www2.linuxjournal.com/lj-issues/issue51/2590.html
A bit dated but provides some theoretical and background information.

By the way, SuSE 7.2 offers an option to set up a crypto file system
partition. The SuSE 7.2 info page at
http://www.suse.com/us/products/susesoft/suse72/index.html describes an
excellent context for using the crypto filesystem: laptops and other mobile
computer devices. If the computer is stolen, the theif is going to have an
obstacle to snarfing up corporate secret, personal info, and other goodies.
