ok, the backup is done. i just copied the files to the personal folder on my SA's 130G file server, since NT doesn't have quotas I was able to do this easily. It did take all day, and there was what looked like a 10:1 collision to transmission ratio on my little hub, but it all got there. is there a utility that will check 2 folders for files that are the same?( windiff will do it, but it will also take all day, and i don't have DevStudio installed yet after i had to rebuild my 98 box that i got new less than a year ago )

If not, >or if you are unsure, then do this: 'mount' and look for the line with >/var/ftp/pub/mp3 >It should look like this: >/dev/hda3 on /var/ftp/pub/mp3 >Make a note of the /dev/xxxx part. > >OK If the rm symlink thing worked 'ls' and see if the other mp3 dir is >still >there. nope >If it is, see if the files are still in it. nope >If it is not there then mkdir mp3, and if the files aren't there, don't >panic yet. >Then (in either case) type 'umount /var/ftp/pub/mp3' and it should unmount >it. nope. error: device in use at this point i started looking at my files from the pc, where were still accessable via smb. when i logged in via ssh, the files were there! then when i checked again localy, all the files were there. i then corrected all the links that i wanted. > >Let me know how(/if) it works :) > so it's fixed. and i won't do it again. ( i can always hope, can't i ) thanks. i did a hard boot just to make sure things would come back up, and they did to my supprise. nice. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
