Recent distributions use XFree86 4.x.x, which has a nifty built-in configuration tool: just run XFree86 -configure This may not work on all systems, but it's worked on the majority of the ones I've tried. It'll write /root/XF86Config.new (if it succeeds), and you can test by doing XFree86 -xf86config /root/XF86Config.new If this works, you can simply move the new XF86Config to /etc/X11. > > I haven't tried this with XFree, but have done it numerous times with the > Xaccelerated X server. > > If this isn't too obvious, checking the install log could produce helpful > information. > > david > > David Ross > 194 Varsity Ave. > Princeton, NJ 08540-6424 > > email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > phone: (609) 452-0349 > fax: (609) 452-0349 > cell: (914) 548-8857 > text message: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > -----Original Message----- > From: Ely, Gerald (USPC.PCT.Hopewell) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Monday, January 28, 2002 8:49 AM > To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'; HamLug email list > Subject: RE: Redhat 7.2 video > > I have been working it for a while.
