Recent distributions use XFree86 4.x.x, which has a nifty built-in
configuration tool: just run XFree86 -configure

This may not work on all systems, but it's worked on the majority of
the ones I've tried.  It'll write /root/XF86Config.new (if it
succeeds), and you can test by doing XFree86 -xf86config
/root/XF86Config.new   If this works, you can simply move the new
XF86Config to /etc/X11.
