Since there is talk of a Plan-9 presentation, below is link for an excellent overview of Plan-9 to give you a preliminary view of what it's all about.
I've occasionally heard of plan-9 over the years but never much substantial info. It was always this mysterious thing intended to be the next generation (not version) of Unix, coming out of the same place that birthed Unix (Bell Laboratories). As Unix became popular Plan-9 was overshadowed and shifted into the background of public awareness (way background, almost unheard of). I am happy to see that it is now an open source project. Perhaps it will continue to evolve even though Bell Labs won't. The concepts are intriguing. Will it gain a foothold? Maybe it already has. At any rate it is an important part of the history (or future) of Unix and an attempt to project computer technology into the future.
