Related to encryption, I've been investigating 7z. Struck me it might be sensible to have the source code, but when I tried compiling following the instructions on https://github.com/p7zip-project/p7zip I immediately got a "file not found" error. I suspect that the downloadable executable files were compiled slightly differently.
