hola a todos!
tengo instalado rhel4 + oracle 9i....
esta maquina tenia instalado 2GB en RAM y frecuentemente usaba el swap
(alrededor de 200MB). Ahora
se agregaron 2GB mas haciendo un total de 4GB. El problema es que aun sigue
haciendo swaping.
Supuestamente Linux trata de utilizar toda la memoria RAM para optimizar el
rendimiento, pero que
pasa con el swaping que realiza...
es un funcianmiento normal ?
problema de sistema operativo ?
problema de oracle ?
problema de configuracion ( parametros de oracle o del SO ) ? <-- me inclino

La salida del top se ve completamente normal. El SO no tendria por que
dejar de realizar swaping. De hecho el espacio definido a memoria de
intercambio es uno de los pilares del Sistema Operativo.
Por otro lado, si tienes duda cuanto es lo que esta utilizando Oracle,
intenta ver los procesos con ps -efa |grep ora_ . Con eso debieras tener
una aproximación de cuanto estas utilizanbdo por tu PGA.
Revisa los parametros del archivo de parametros de inicio y chequea el
valos que tienen parametros como db_cache_size, db_block_size,
java_pool_size, pga_aggregate_target y large_pool_size.

En mi caso un dell 600m con una t de video radeon 9000
Suspension: solos video=vesafb:off y usando el driver radeon para las X
anda OK, si uso vesa no siempre revive bien
Hibernacion: con Vesa(-tng) + fbspash + X-radeon OK
en ambos casos usando el hibernation-script para que me desactive el usb
principalmente + el swsuspend del kernel normalito
