Where you put GRUB (or, more precisely, where you *didn't* put it is
your problem.

I know it sounds "unsafe" to a new user to have Linux put GRUB or LILO
in the boot partition of your first drive, because that is where the
Windows boot loader is! However, if you don't replace the Windows boot
loader, then your PC will not know how to boot anything but Windows, and
you will have installed Linux and not be able to boot it. :( Your
install had the MBR option as the default install for this reason, and
when you de-select it, it assumes you will take care of the booting
options yourself, I am afraid...

There are ways to probably go back and just install GRUB to your MBR,
but it may be better to just re-install - unless someone else points you
to a resource for this (and you will have to use the command line).
