If you want easy 3D then the best step might be a DRI supported card with an 
open source driver... The next best might be nvidia with a good working 
driver that's easy to install. Then if you want some hassles, get an ATI... 

But it's still ATI that has to supply the driver, not linux. Linux can't 
supply the 3D driver as it's closed source intellectual property that only 
ATI can supply. If you can't get 3D on your ATI card, it has very little to 
do with linux.

Did you ge a driver from Creative :)  They don't supply one? Well, maybe some 
nice guy out there wrote one, maybe not. Maybe you should has the hardware 
supplier about that one.

This could be the distro. Mandrake seems to handle this sort of thing out of 
the box okay. Maybe it's because you have two and it's confusing things.

If you really want to avoid the command line you probably can, but whats the 
point. If you really aren't some noob and you can learn, then you wil find 
the command line can kick arse, esp when you start compiling that kernel next 
week :)
