SuSe and Mandrake were the first ones I'd even consider taking a stab at. They are much better. If I might please join this thread? I have just installed Mandrake 10 on an oldish PC. The spec is as follows.. 800Mhz Athlon motherboard with 128 Mem 8 Gig hard disk 24 speed CD read only drive Combi DVD/RW + CD/RW Trio 3D Graphics Card Sound Blaster 16 Sound Card External Serial hardware modem The Mandrake distro installed like a dream from the 4 Cd's and nearly ALL hardware was found and initialised at first reboot by Hardrake execpt the soundcard. However Hardrake told me to run "sndconfig" to make it work. I did via a Konsul (CLI) entry and it now works fine. I can get on the internet but have yet to figure out how to configure KMail for email use. Hence using a Gates Crate for this mail. I use KDE 3.2 for a deskdop GUI and it looks really great, far better than windows. All in all I would rate Mandrake 10 with 10/10 marks for installing and setting up.
