which distro are you using?
I bet kvirc is available as a package on the cd's for the distro. ;)
much simpler than building from sources.
if you are familiar with irc protocol and usage then using kvirc is
simple.
if not it's a bit of learning to understand irc system. the app is
still simple to use.
