since linux is drastically different from windows, and
mandrake has the description, importance, and purpose 
for every package, it gives a better understanding of
which packages are used for what.

if not using expert mode, then you can wind up with
error messages or frustrations that aren't needed. (
from trying to install packages not included so the
messages themselves are just a waste of time )

it should be able to talk to it.
you will probably want to use samba client to acces
the windows proxy server.
samba takes the tcp / ip protocol from *x and converts
it to the netbeui of windows to remove the connection
issues that happen with ms' non standard protocol.
