Hi! I am a Linux novice and I am stuck while installing Linux OS on my desktop:I'm trying to install suse 9.2 on my compaq presario machine (intel celeron D processor, 256MB ddr sdram, 80 GB hd + 160 GB hd, cdrw/dvd combo drive). The machine already has windows xp installed on the 80GB drive and I'm trying to install linux on the 160GB drive. The installation seems to fail during the format of the 2nd hard drive. I've tried installing a 400-500MB swap partition and one other partition for linux. I've also tried other combinations: - 100mb fat to share with windows, 400-500 Mb swap, the remainder for linux - 1GB fat to share with windows, 400-500 Mb swap, 40GB for linux, remainder for linux - 400-500 Mb swap, and 50GB for linux, remainder left unused None of these combinations succeeded and each time the machine hung during the formatting. Has anyone experienced this problem? Does anyone have recommendations on how I can correct the problem? One other detail, on Suse, I have perform a fail-safe installation otherwise the machine reboots before getting the install splash screen. When I tried another disto, Fedora, I can't get the installation to boot because the machine keeps resetting. Any suggestions on how to boot Fedora in a manner similar to the Suse "fail-safe" option? regards, Sunil ---------- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
