/dev/hda ( ide0 [ drive c ] )
/dev/hdb ( ide1 [ drive d ] )

assuming that there is one partition per drive as is
normal for windows systems.

hda1 = windows
hda2 = /

new drive =
hdb

hdc and hdd are normally reserved for ide3 and 4 and
are usually your cdrom and dvd.


this removable drive, is usb?
or firewire?

external or through hotswap bay?

you may be picking wrong device type with hdd.


list your fstab from /etc directory.
then one of us that are more failiar can see what is
causing the errors.
