Hi - I am relatively new to Linux, having just installed the Debian Sarge release on my laptop a few weeks ago. Since that time I am trying to get all of my other toys and doo-dads to work and one in particular has me hung up, my HP psc 1210 multifunction device.
I spent a full day getting the printing to work and was successful. Scanning, however, has been another story. I have tried to scan using XSane and the program seems to freeze on me. (In a possibly related note, no documentation can be found for XSane - am I looking in the wrong place?) The linuxprinting.org site has this lovely jewel about my little p/s/c: Does not understand PCL as most other DeskJets/PSCs/OfficeJets, it uses the so-called "Lightweight Imaging Device Interface Language" (LIDIL), these printers are supported by the "hpijs" driver beginning from version 1.3. The driver supports resolutions only up to 600 dpi, head alignment settings stored in the printer are not made use of, so use a one-cartridge (CMY) printing mode in case of mis-alignments. Scanning works using the HPOJ low-level driver together with its SANE backend "hpoj". However, note that when using the current version (0.9) you can only scan, and when you don't use HPOJ at all you can only print. To fix this so you can both print and scan, you MUST install libusb and upgrade to the CVS version of HPOJ. What I gather from this is that I need to follow the instructions in the last sentence; that is, "install libusb and upgrade to the CVS version of HPOJ." Still, I am not sure how to do this. My attempts to build the latest version of libusb result in errors, and I don't know what is meant by the CVS version of HPOJ. Does anyone have any experience with this printer that they can impart to me? Thanks in advance. Ron Crummett ------------------------ Yahoo!
