Yes, Linspire is a pay for download system, you pay a subscription fee and then you can download different application for their servers. All that Linspire is doing is setting up an apt server that requires authentication to download updates. If you remove their 'CNR' (Click and Run) features you can add Debian repositories into the /etc/apt/sources.list file and download Debian updates for the Linspire desktop. It would be cool if someone setup an apt server with updated debs just for linspire. I am not talkign about stealing them, just rolling your own version that works with Linspire and putting them on an apt server for people to download. I didn't like linspire because it was buggy. The Mozilla issue that started this thread was a problem I had as well. I fixed it by getting rid of it. What I am getting at is that ubuntu has everything that linspire has, (kubuntu has kde instead of gnome) for free. No pay to download, free.
