Changing operating systems is probably not going to affect how you interface with Konqueror, unless the OS's you install have different versions of Konqueror, with different features. Unlike the directory tree in Windows (explorer.exe), Konqueror is not part of the operating system itself, but a discrete application, developed independently of the distros that might be using it: http://www.konqueror.org/ I also have Nautilus http://www.gnome.org/projects/nautilus/ installed on my box. It is a Gnome file manager, that will also run in KDE, in spite of its throwing up a few errors, when invoked. If you want Konqueror to behave, and default to the list view, it can be easily done, in any distro, by following Brad's suggestions. While I was setting mine, I also discovered that I could set the size and shape that the window would open to, as well.
