Hi Gordon, and welcome to the group. I really enjoy reading your informative
posts on the NZ groups. I'm a newbie to Linux myself.

Just a few notes from my previous experiences with viruses in windows,
always run in safe mode when cleaning, and always clean the run and startup
registry entries before trying to remove the virus files.

You can easily use a download manage that can handle all the large
downloads, and even recover from a disconnection, or even windows crashing.
I use Free Download Manager (www.freedownloadmanager.org). It has download
schedualing, and can throttle the download speed so your connection doesnt
choke.

If you can reinstall windows, all you need to do is leave a few extra gigs
while partitioning the hdd during the installation process.
Personally, I use Partition Magic, it enables you to resize your partitions,
and hence make some space. I am sure there are a lot of other utilities out
there that can do just that.

Yeah, sure. All the Linux desktop bootloaders enable you to boot any number
of operating systems you want. Its pretty much like the menu you get when
you have more than one windows installation, only this is much more
versatile and powerful.
