Now I'm guessing.  However, I would think that it's probably going to be
gdm, if that's the name (gname?) of gnome's thingie.  Look in /etc/rc.d,
or possibly /etc/rc3.d and rc5.d (I'm sorry, I'm in FreeBSD here, and
don't have a Deb or Deb clone to check) and see if there's a gdm.  If
so, I ~think~ that replacing xdm in the above command with gdm will fix
it.
