Is this only in Knoppix? Have you checked your key repeat settings in your BIOS? You can also look at your X log. Try this as root: grep Repeat /var/log/X*.log The first number there is the delay in milliseconds before repeating, which is the one that's too low for you. A reasonable number is 500.
