Check /etc/resolv.conf This file is supposed to be populated with stuff like: SEARCH NAMESERVER
The nameservers are critical to Internet domain resolution. You can have all equipment recognized and every driver in place, but if you have no *reference* point to lookup www.tldp.org then you won't be able to resolve the domain to the IP and get web content back. As far as physical connections, you got a USR external modem right? /dev/ttyS* This connection in linux should allow you to configure the port, but you also must make sure that the modem is properly connected to the serial port. Also you might try purchasing a new serial cable (since that is something you would keep and if its the problem would be a cheap fix). OTHO if your connection problems are surrounding the Ethernet card and its properly recognized and addressed via DHCP, then the /etc/resolv.conf file should fix your ills. Good luck. Peace be the journey, jontheisguy PS. FWIW, in the future when you post about possible meeting/help onsite, you may wish to mention a general geography if not city/state. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
