By default you can not sign into Debian as Root. At the initial login screen
you have to enable the option using the Configuration Menu at the top.

Subject: [LINUX_Newbies] debian passward problem

I am running Debian Etch and after the last update I am getting the
invalid password message when I type in my root password to run the
program. When I type su in a terminal the root password "takes."
Anybody got a handle on this one? I tried changing the root password in
user and groups, but I can't change there.
Jim
