I am using OpenBSD, which is not Linux, but is UNIX, and quite similar
to Linux.

If you have never set up a server before, there are some things you will
have to study up on.

Serving web pages with Apache is fairly easy, just go to apache.org and
read up on how to configure the Apache web server.

Setting up sendmail to handle my email was considerably trickier, but I
got it up and running after a few days reading various on-line tutorials.

Rather than being distro-related, setting up a server is more a matter
of how you choose the applications you are going to install. In my
opinion, the less you have running, the better, especially when you are
new to the task, and not sure what you are doing.

I chose OpenBSD over a Linux distro for my servers, because it is a very
bare-bones install, and is known for being very secure in its default
installation state. Being a newbie server administrator, I wanted the
most secure-by-default setup possible, so that my ignorance would not be
too great a danger to me.

The more I learn (2 servers on-line for about 10 months, now), the more
I realise that I made a good decision.
