My XP desktop is on from 8am to 11pm because I run the BBC Climate Change
Experiment and yet it shows no real increase in my consumption.

I generally leave my servers running and turn off the desktops at night.
 I'm not sure that a single computer makes a noticeable jump in your
electric bill, but 6 of them do.
