thank you for that good explanation I am reading and studying and I thought it was the main thing and I know that windows has a kernel. At least now I have a computer up and running with linux to try out and play with I do much better learning by hands on in fact that used to be one of my qualities pre brain injury you could buy a brand new software and leave me alone with your computer and I could figure out the software from simple to complex pre brain injury not only was I working wild land fires but I was also shooting video for the nearby well out in west nearby 100 miles away NBC station and when I was out on local fires I would shoot film then depending were I was at using lap top and either cell phone or sat phone I shipped it to them. Well about 4 years ago maybe longer when all the new formats and stuff was coming out they bought this muti thousand dollar software editing system I am guessing at thousands maybe much more probably is but any way to train there staff on this software they would have to fly a guy in from the company and pay for him at an hourly rate plus pay airlines hotel food so I was talking to the head of broadcast and was like well what if you give me the program let me lock my self into the computer lab and see if I can get it figured out he was like heck why not your per hour rate is allot less then getting one of them and he told me if I figured it out he would give me a nice little bonuses well the long and the short is less then a day alter I had the whole software figured out and I got a nice big thank you check. But then a few years later I was working hard helping people setting in back of a helicopter doing mapping and spotting and because of a unknown at that time engine problem the helicopter suddenly lost elevation and in my opinion and many others the pilot killed him self so I can live there was two ways he could aim the helpless dropping bird he could try drop it tail first and I had a high chance of dying or he could drop it nose down and have a good chance he would die but I would live or just let it drop like a rock and kill both of us I believe but don't know he chose nose. I was just trying to get my stuff strapped down so that I didn't have to worry about stuff flying at me and getting my self ready to crash the last thing I remember is here the warring systems beeping and alarming then it felt like I got hit real hard and don't remember any thing tell 4 weeks alter when I came out of the comma. I want to get back to where I was I never will be right there but I can get close like my nero doc says the memories are still there it is not like a hard drive that was formatted the memories are still there the path ways are just gone so has I start playing and doing computers stuff it might trigger one of those memory and make a new path to it. So I am using computer tweaking has therapy that is also why my spelling is so horrendous one of the things that bugs me is I try tell my self I should be further along that I am even though the therapist says don't should your self to death. But not to brag I graduated early out of highschool with high grades then went on to collage and I can't even do basic math any more ----- Original Message ----- From: robroy911 To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, February 26, 2007 9:41 AM Subject: Re: [LINUX_Newbies] a dumb question
The Kernel is the core of the Operating System. It controls and manages processor / memory usage (system resources). It manages drivers. The linux kernel is the one thing that each linux distro has in common. All flavors of Linux use the same core software.
