I install the dhcp on our new computer (slackware). In our organization, we have an existing dhcp server but we need to have a standby back up if something will happen to the computer.
I copied the dhcpd.conf content from our running dhcp server and place it to the new computer. I did not connect the new computer to the network then I tried to type dhcpd start it give me this error. No subnet declaration for start (0.0.0.0). ** Ignoring requests on start. If this is not what you want, please write a subnet declaration in your dhcpd.conf file for the network segment to which interface start is attached. ** Do I have to connect the new computer to the network before running dhcp? I did not connect it because we have a dhcp server running and it may cause some conflicts. Can the new computer run dhcp service without connecting to the network? If so, why does the error occurs?
