As Daniel writes, distrowatch is a good place to get an idea of
popularity--those statistics in the column on the right aren't that
accurate (as the author of the page will tell you) but it gives an idea.  

Other RH alternatives besides Fedora are CentOS, which I think (but am
not sure) is more similar to the Enterprise RH and Blag which is a one
CD version of Fedora and might be a good place to start.
