I would be inclined, if you have sufficient bandwidth, to download and
install Fedora Core 6 from here:

  http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/

or wait a few days, just until 31may2007, for Fedora 7 (they're dropped
the "Core") and download that. Fedora Core 3 is out of maintenance and
upgrading will be hard. It would be better to start with a clean install
of the most recent version so that you can stay up to date in future.

You will also get current Firefox releases with this, etc.

You may be concerned about running very recent stuff on older/slower
hardware. You should be fine; if the desktop environment seems to overload
your hardware there are ways to use more lightweight desktops instead
of the defaults.

After installing a newer Fedora, try this:

  yum install boinc
