I've noted that problem too. I think something got missed in
converting from Windows directory structure to Linux.
My standard operating procedure now is to create a "downloads"
directory in /home/%myname%, then in Firefox
Edit->Preferences->Downloads and direct all downloads to said
directory (or click the "ask me where to download to every time" box!)
That way, you absolutely know where the file will be put.
