I have breathed new life into my old Compaq Armada with a Pentium 1
CPU and 128 MB of RAM by burning a DSL Live CD and running it on this
antique laptop. DSL is the only distro that runs on this dinosaur; it
choked on Puppy.

Really the only reason I would use it is to surf using my wireless
home network or at a cyber cafe. I can't see doing much else with it,
but you never know. If I can go online with it, I might find other
uses.

I can go online using a cable from my router, but that defeats the
purpose of owning a laptop. I opened the Control Panel and went
through the setup for Wlanconfig and then click System>Net
Setup>ndiswrapper

The inf file shows /mn/hda1/windows/netcard.inf
device is wlan0
I type in my SSID and leave wep blank since I took out the password
just to get it working

When I click OK I get the message Connection failed.

In the Control Panel when I click PCMCIA Tool>ident I get:

Socket 0:
product info: "Intersil" , "ISL3890","-","-"
manfid: 0x000b 0x3890
function: 254 ((null))
Socket 1:
no product info available

I'm using a Netgear WG511 Wireless PC Card. Under Windows the little
green light blinks when there's a connection and the amber light
stays lit continually. But with DSL neither light comes on suggesting
that DSL does not even see the card although the PCMCIA Tool suggests
otherwise.

Where do I go from here? I joined this forum because I'm a total
Linux newbie, so please, if you're going to provide a suggestion
requiring any changes in the settings or whatever, give very simple,
basic step-by-step directions.

Thanks,
Relztrah
