I recently asked a similar question and was given a few different distros to
try and now a have many more then a few! To run on a system like the one you
told of, I would try feather or puppy linux. My favorite small dostro is puppy,
easy to use looks cool. But whichever one you have the most run with and works
best for you is always the best. Also try D*mn small linux (DSL) It needs about
120Mb to run the xwindow but it soubds like it should work on the system you
have.
Hope that helps
Good luck

Vector *might* fit the bill. It was originally intended to run on older
hardware. It's pretty newcomer friendly friendly.

Spike: What's this? Sittin' around watching the telly while
there's evil still afoot? It's not very industrious of you. I say
we go out there and kick a little demon ass! What, can't go
without your Buffy, is that it? Let's find her! She is the chosen
one, after all. Come on! Vampires! Grrr! Nasty! Let's annihilate
them, for justice, and for... the safety of puppies... and
Christmas, right? Let's fight that evil! Let's kill something!
  Oh, come on!
