You use these variables exactly like any other, except that (as far
as I know) they're read-only since their values are set by the shell.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ echo $0
-bash
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ echo $?
0
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ echo $$
12079
--
