If you considered this rude then you should not have replied, I hate the people
who want to take what an individual plainly typed out in a got format to
seperate each section and give complete information but because it was in caps
you had a problem, get off your soap box
First, please do not type in capital letters. It is considered to be
rude (yelling).
If the CD is bootable then it should make no difference whether it is a Linux
or Windows CD. Since it does not boot on your computer, I am suspicious about
the CD.
Also, Ubuntu 5.04 is very old. I suggest that you get the latest version, 7.10.
To get the latest version go to distrowatch.org and download the iso file. Do
not copy it to CD, instead open the image file (iso) in your CD burning
program. This will burn the image to CD as a bootable disk.
Ubuntu loads as a live CD (fully functional OS) without installing it, running
from the CD. Once it boots to the desktop you can choose to install it onto
your hard drive.
Another way to install Ubuntu is from Windows. Go to:
http://wubi-installer.org/ and download the file. It will install Ubuntu 7.04
on your computer from within Windows. It takes care of all of the decisions and
does not require any partitioning knowledge. It is only in beta. It requires at
least 4 GB of free HD space.
If you prefer you can also get a file which modifies the bootloader to use your
network card to download the appropriate files without a CD, but you would need
a hispeed internet connection. Go to:
http://lubi.sourceforge.net/unetbootin.html
Good luck!
