I think Richard is saying that his XP disk is a restore disk, usually
provided by the likes of Dell or Toshiba, etc.
If that's the case, it's going to wipe out the contents of the disk
every time. So, the solution would be to borrow an XP disk and
install using your valid key.
That way you have a fresh install of XP, a valid license, and the
ability to install Linux with XP.
As a side-note, Richard, you may do better to install XP, then Linux.
That's the order I've always done it in, and I've never had to worry
about XP overwriting any of my Linux stuff.
