I would consider getting a new modem. The Win in Winmodem means that it was made to run with Windows. It relies on both software and hardware. A simple driver will probably not fill the bill. If any Linux distro could get it to work, PCLinuxOS would be among the best. Since modems are not expensive, it may be more cost effective in terms of time to pick up a cheap hardware based modem that works with Linux. Just my two cents. I have not used a modem for almost ten years, so am clearly no expert. It was a winmodem that I last had and it did not always work when new versions of Windows came out. I wonder if your modem would work with Vista, let alone Linux.
