Subject: [LINUX_Newbies] Burn Ubuntu to CD or DVD... any difference?...
If I burn the Ubuntu image to DVD (its the size for a CD) instead a
of a
CD will it be a big difference in speak running it from the disk drive?
I ran out of CD's.... seems to work fine running from a DVD but would
running it from a CD be faster?
Just checking :)
Jason
You won't notice much difference. The CD or DVD loads what it can
into RAM then runs from there. It will go back to the CD or DVD as needed, each
time loading it into RAM. The larger the RAM drive the faster it will run.
Installing more RAM would help reduce disk access. However, everything must be
loaded from disk at some point so you are stuck with the slow access time,
either way.
The extra space on your DVD cannot be used once the disk is closed. It will
still occupy the same space as on the CD and the unused space will be wasted.
It will run faster if you install it to a USB pendrive instead of a DVD. This
is a substantially more expensive way to go. Disks are cheap.
