With a little research, one can find out which cards work with which
distros before one makes a purchase. (doesn't apply to laptops,
though, as the video is on the mainboard).

I don't want to rag on you too much, but how do you suppose it is
possible, that Linux distributions are free (as in Free Beer)?

Microsoft and other Closed Source ventures actually pay their
developers, engineers, etc., a lot of money to perform the many tasks
that go into developing anything as huge as a single large
application... not to mention an entire operating system, bundled with
more free (as in both Free Beer *and* Free Speech) software than any
sane person could ever actually use in 10 lifetimes.

This `free' magic is a result of a lot of people (The Open Source and
Linux/BSD Communities) pooling their efforts, much of it done
completely gratis, or for what donations, they can muster up, from a
grateful User Base, and some large companies, who find it in their
best interest, to support the Open Source movement.

When one stops and considers the amount of money they *do not* have to
spend on an operating system, and a full complement of application
softwares, 'forking over' a little money, or a little time, or some
skills and knowledge... seems not such a bad deal.
