Hello Scott you wrote:

Appreciate very much your reply. I found the link and it looks quite
promising. >

be worthwhile going through the whole thread.
I have copied it down using XP and will check this out further. At
present Roy suggested that I may need to upgrade Kernel. Will probably
look into that when I can figure out where to locate the Kernel version.>

because the manufacturers won't want to release the driver
information, and it takes awhile for a developer to figure it out.
CUPS being bought by Apple might or might not make this better knowing
Apple, it will probably change to something that only works on Apple
hardware, but that's down the road. :)
OK Thanks for the Driver Explanation. I couldn't understand what the
protocol was involving the Driver Software. It goes round and round
sometimes. What you're suggesting is the manufacture has to release
the Driver information first or either develop it themselves or work
with Linux to develop the drivers for their equipment. Something like
that?

bought a laptop. For me, I want sound, basic printing, scanning (I
have an older scanner and older printer, not an all in one) and as
they're both older, they're pretty well supported.
In the beginning I originally had an Epson 86 which worked well Linux.
I can't remember if I used Xandros to scan or XP since I didn't do
much. Needed some space so went with the Aio. Kodak was my first
choice as good reviews an cost effective. But......>

up with various viruses and/or trojans.) Linux is getting closer to
being a desktop replacement all the time, but it still doesn't have
the hardware support that Windows has. It has its own advantages, and
I'm sure you realize many of them, otherwise, you'd have just said, Oh
this is a pain and gone back to using Windows. For what it's worth,
almost every IT professional, regardless of what O/S they work with,
has sent an email to friend with the line, "Did I ever mention that I
HATE computers?"

As I mentioned before have been trying to come up with Aio for Linux
of choice. I'll try to keep an update as I try to figure out the
language, commands, configurations, etc. needed. As a senior citizen
newbie I need to be spoon feed the first time to decipher what/where
to go.

Thanks again very much! Hoping this will get the Job Done.
