The man was asking for help with his current distro, not for a dis of
it and recommendations to change. If he doesn't like it, he'll figure
it out soon enough for himself, and ask us for recommendations then.
We all have our personal favorite distros. Look up my posts
elsewhere, I won't highlight them as such here.

My personal experience is that I will end up liking a derived distro
better than a base distro, because developers have identified gaps
and/or deficiencies and acted to fill and/or fix them. Linux
developers don't fix what ain't broke. This is why, to me, PCLinuxOS
is preferable to Mandriva, Sabayon is preferable to Gentoo, and Ubuntu
or MEPIS is preferable to straight-up Debian. Of course, I have other
issues with *buntus that have nothing to do with how well they work ;)
Ubuntu and *it's* derivative, Linux Mint, are gorgeous, but I don't
like the "rootless" administration scheme. It perpetuates bad Windoze
habits. But that's just me. And there's nothing wrong with Open SuSE
per se, but liking or disliking a distro is sometimes *not* about pure
performance speed, which is what the recommendation made here was
based on...

*Only* ten? ;) I've tried around twice that many...

Now, *here*, we agree.

...and Macs are both! (kidding! well, half-kidding...)
