A good source of information about running Linux on a Mac can be found at http://thebadapples.info/
The podcaster and website maintainer is klaatu and he is a well known and outspoken Mac and open source advocate. He advocates Fedora 9 on his site, but he may have other recommendations. Not being a Mac user I only pay a passing notice. I know that Mepis was once a good Mac distro that even had a migration tool. Mepis 8 is in final beta now and should be available soon.
